I designed a space for this project to display works from the Fabric Museum and Workshop. My primary goal with this pavilion was to create a space that not only integrated the structure and the pieces with the environment but also invited the viewer to interact with the space in a playful way. The pieces I have chosen are inherently playful in nature. Further, creating a space of undulating and interweaving levels and surfaces creates a dynamic environment in which the viewer interacts with and almost becomes a part of the artwork.
Much of this project is inspired by my physical model from my "Motion Study" project, in which I had to pay careful attention to where each string landed. My project 2 tackles this same challenge, with an intricate set of weaving surfaces used to display and prompt the viewer to navigate the artwork. My structure features a central enclosed space in which the artworks reside. The Interwoven elements of this structure were designed to lead the visitor to explore these artworks and the space around them, prompting an interaction with the structure and the land and creating environment of playfulness.
