01 CONCEPT
​
My community center design operates around the use of a clear numbering system, supplemented by iconography corresponding to the use of each room to support. I used three colors, one per floor. This adds a pop of color while also aiding in an easily recognizable floor distinction. The interior of the building uses clear and large numbering for each room, in addition to the room's icon.
​
Signage and information that is regularly updated will be displayed on chalk boards. Additionally, public-use rooms that don't typically require privacy will have large windows, brightening the space. Both of these choices serve to open the space up for the public using the community center.
02 TYPOGRAPHY
​
These three fonts will be used for all permanent signage throughout the building.
Avenir Light will be used as the title for any temporary or supplementaty signage.
​
Avenir Light Oblique will be used as the description following the title on any supplementary signage.
​
Avenir Heavy will be used for all numbers, and text in the directory.

03 COLOR SCHEME

These colors will be used to differentiate between floors on all signage. The green represents the bottom floor (floor 0), the blue works as the first floor (floor 1), and the orange represents the second floor (floor 2).
04 ICON DIRECTORY
​
These icons will be used to represent different rooms in the community center. Icons were chosen rather than english text because this community center is intended for individuals speaking all languages, not only english. Thus, I made sure to choose icons that would likely be interpreted in the same way no matter the language.

05 ROOM LABELING AND NUMBERING SYSTEM
​
The walls facing the hallways of public access rooms (ie, classrooms, conference room, exhibition space, library, and auditorium) will have a strip of frosted glass along the center of glass walls, with the room number and corresponding icon pasted on top in its floor color. For more private rooms, such as Social Services, or the Director's office, there will be less glass used.
06 LOBBY DIRECTORY

The lobby directory will consist of plaques that display each room number and its corresponding icon in its proper floor color. Since the lobby is on the first floor, floors zero and two have directional down and up arrows, respectfully, to indicate which direction to go in to reach each floor.
07 FLOOR SIGNAGE FLOOR 2

Using the same numbering and icon system for each room as the directory, this floor plan will be shown on the wall on the landing of the second floor to help guide visitors to their intended room.
08 FLOOR SIGNAGE FLOOR 1

Using the same numbering and icon system for each room as the directory, this floor plan will be shown on the wall on the landing of the first floor to help guide visitors to their intended room.
09 FLOOR SIGNAGE FLOOR 0

Using the same numbering and icon system for each room as the directory, this floor plan will be shown on the wall on the landing of the bottom floor to help guide visitors to their intended room.
10 EVENT SCHEDULE
​
The daily programming schedule will be presented upon entry on a chalk board wall divided into three sections, time, room, and activity. This board can be updated daily.
To help make it clear where to go for each event, magnetic pre-made tiles for each room number with the corresponding color can be put in the middle column each day, aligned with a corresponding activity.
